The Abbey

History

In 1974, Al Counard pedaled his bike from the Northeast side of Green Bay to West De Pere. His goal was to get to the City of De Pere sheriff’s auction in time to put a bid in on the former End Zone Supper Club, located across from St. Norbert College campus. Al knew the location would be the perfect spot for him to live out the dream of owning his own business. For more than 15 years Al Counard operated The Abbey along with his partner Steve Harrison. Al made The Abbey famous among students of SNC and local residents alike for its short order burger and fry combos, ice-cold brews and friendly atmosphere.

In the fall of 1990, Al’s oldest son Kerry joined the business. He reintroduced Northeast Wisconsin to indoor golf, while at the same time upholding The Abbey’s long tradition of “food, fun & camaraderie”.

The year 2000 brought more changes and the new 6,600 square foot facility you find yourself in today. No longer just a short order food and beer pub, The Abbey now offers 30 beers on tap, an extensive wine list, private party facilities, and a relaxing atmosphere.

In a tradition started by Al more than 30 years ago, our goals remain the same: Provide a great atmosphere with good food and lots of fun!
